Imagine you wake up one morning with a low bank balance, a car that you pray will give you just a few more miles, and a house that needs more repairs than its worth. Now imagine it’s the middle of winter, the furnace has just stopped working and you now need to spend money you don’t have to fix it. This is how my client Bianca felt when she came to me for help. Each year the house needed more repairs. Each year she had to catch up on her savings and spend it all over again making small temporary repairs on this house. She knew selling the house was the only way to get back on her feet. She also knew that no one would buy the house with all the repairs it needed. She asked if I would be interested, I wasn’t. I didn’t want to deal with those same problems but I also had a deep desire to help her. Bianca sold her house to me that winter, I repaired the furnace for her and gave her time to move out. She was extremely happy, she surely felt a sense of relief and accomplishment. With the money, she quickly bought a new home that needed fewer repairs. She also had some money left over for a downpayment on a new car. As for me, well, I had to start working on that house. The years of temporary repairs did a number on the house and I was forced to start from scratch. I still own that house and I personally feel a sense of accomplishment when I see it. I’m happy I was able to help Bianca and proud of how that house turned out.
